Tinning Guitar Components

How to tin your guitar components - tinning your wire and components is very underrated and far to often underused. The whole principle of tinning is to make the final solder connection stronger - both electronically and mechanically. It also makes the solder connection easier to make. Tinning is winning! As we like to say.

This video shows you how to keep your solder tip clean and tinned and how to tin your wire, the terminals of a Stratocaster switch and the back of CTS pot.

It must be said however - good quality CTS, Alpha, Bourns pots are already coated in tin. If you are using high quality Gavitt cloth wire or PVC wire, the core of wire itself is normally constructed from tinned copper.

It is a good habit to tin your components...but not the end of the world if you don't.
